Privacy Policy

RAG Product Assistant respects user privacy and handles data transparently in compliance with Chrome Web Store policies.

Information Collection & Usage

The extension accesses and collects public product information from supported e-commerce websites (Amazon and Flipkart), including:

• Product names, specifications, and public product page URLs.
• Public customer reviews, star ratings, review dates, and public reviewer names.

This data is used solely to generate AI-powered product summaries, answer user questions, and perform grounded review analysis.

The extension does NOT collect user credentials, passwords, financial details, payment information, personal communications, or location data.

Data Storage & Transmission

Local Storage: The extension uses Chrome storage APIs (chrome.storage.local) to store application settings, active product names, and ingestion status locally in your browser.

Backend & Third-Party Transmission: Product queries, page URLs, and public review text are transmitted securely to our backend service (https://grounded-review-assistant.onrender.com). To enable AI question answering, relevant context chunks are processed using third-party AI services (Groq API) and vector databases (Qdrant). Data is never sold to third parties or used for ad targeting.

Permissions

In version 2.1, the extension requests only minimal required permissions:

• tabs: To detect when a user is actively viewing a product page on supported e-commerce domains.
• storage: To save application state and cached product metadata locally in the browser.
• sidePanel: To render the AI assistant UI alongside e-commerce product pages.
• host_permissions: Limited strictly to supported e-commerce domains (Amazon, Flipkart) and our backend service API.
